Toyota Reveals New 4Runner SUV After Nearly 15 Years

Toyota Motor recently unveiled the new 4Runner SUV after almost 15 years, marking the completion of the redesign of the automaker’s current trucks and SUVs. The 2025 4Runner boasts a fresh look that resembles the updated Toyota Tacoma pickup. In addition to its new appearance, the latest model will also be available with a hybrid engine for the first time. The introduction of new high-end trims, such as the “Platinum” and “Trailhunter,” adds to the versatility and appeal of the vehicle.

The 4Runner belongs to Toyota’s “truck family,” which includes the Tacoma and Tundra pickup trucks, as well as the Land Cruiser and Sequoia SUVs. This latest redesign of the 4Runner brings it in line with the global truck platform introduced with the Land Cruiser and Tundra in 2021. With over 3 million 4Runners sold in the last 40 years, Toyota is looking to enhance the model’s rugged style and adventurous spirit while introducing new features that cater to the preferences of its loyal customer base.

While Toyota is recognized for its fuel-efficient vehicles like the Prius, larger SUV models like the 4Runner previously lagged in terms of fuel efficiency, averaging 17 mpg or less in combined ratings. However, the new 4Runner aims to improve its fuel economy and align with the more eco-friendly direction of Toyota’s overall vehicle lineup. With updated hybrid engine options and improved MPG ratings, the 2025 4Runner is expected to offer a more sustainable driving experience for consumers.

The 2025 4Runner will be available in nine different models, catering to various preferences and driving needs. From the base SR5 model to the premium Limited edition, there is a wide range of options for customers to choose from. The Trailhunter model stands out with its off-road styling and equipment, including features like rock rails and high-strength steel skid plates. On the other hand, the Platinum model focuses on luxury and convenience, offering a more upscale driving experience.

Toyota’s commitment to sustainability is evident in the development of the new 4Runner and its hybrid engine technology. By offering a hybrid option with improved fuel efficiency, the automaker is responding to the growing demand for more eco-friendly vehicles in the market. Jack Hollis, executive vice president of Toyota Motor North America, emphasized the importance of striking a balance between sustainability and performance across Toyota’s truck and SUV lineup, emphasizing the need to reduce carbon emissions through innovative vehicle solutions.

The production of the 2025 4Runner is currently taking place at Toyota’s Tahara plant in Japan, ensuring high-quality manufacturing standards and precision engineering. While the exact pricing for the new model has not been released yet, Toyota plans to announce the details closer to the on-sale date. As the latest addition to Toyota’s truck family, the 2025 4Runner represents a blend of tradition and innovation, offering customers an exciting new option in the SUV market.
