Altstore PAL: The New Third-Party iPhone App Store

Altstore PAL has recently been introduced in Europe as the first third-party iPhone app store, providing users with an alternative app marketplace outside of Apple’s official App Store. This new platform offers users the opportunity to access apps that are not available through Apple’s store, bringing a new level of flexibility and choice to iPhone users in the region.

One of the key features of Altstore PAL is its lack of content restrictions, allowing users to download apps that would otherwise not be permitted on Apple’s App Store. For example, users will have the ability to download a Nintendo emulator called Delta and a clipboard manager named Clip. While Delta will be available for free, Clip will require a minimum donation of EUR 1. This change offers users a wider range of app options and a more personalized experience.

Developers also stand to benefit from the introduction of Altstore PAL. Unlike other app marketplaces, Altstore PAL does not charge developers to host their apps and does not take a commission on donations received via Patreon. This creates a more sustainable and equitable environment for developers, allowing them to distribute their apps without incurring additional costs.

In order to access Altstore PAL, users in the EU must update their iPhone to iOS 17.4 and pay an annual subscription fee of EUR 1.50. This subscription fee helps cover Apple’s Core Technology Fee, ensuring that the platform remains compliant with Apple’s guidelines. Users who do not wish to pay the annual fee or who reside outside of the EU can still sideload apps using a computer and the original Altstore app, refreshing them every seven days.

Overall, the introduction of Altstore PAL represents a significant development in the world of iPhone app marketplaces. By providing users with a wider selection of apps and developers with a more accessible platform, Altstore PAL has the potential to change the way users interact with their iPhones. With its unique features and developer-friendly policies, Altstore PAL is set to be a game-changer in the app marketplace industry.
